„I began exploring laserdisc purchases in 1991, but I was hampered by our inadequate equipment budget. Demand for VHS was so heavy that I was reluctant to divert money to purchase laserdisc equipment. However, as I explored the advantages of laserdiscs, I decided to take the plunge. The library's Media fund supports all formats, audio and video, but the vast majority of the money will be spent on video. „At first I was surprised to see it ignored all my DivX movies, but I later found out my unit shipped with the latest firmware on the DVD player, but the server software was out of date. If you want to be safe, download the server software from this Gateway Support Page (which required quite a bit of digging on their site to find, as it's not listed under support files for the device). „I purchased Gateway's G card which came with a disk that contained the firmware upgrade/driver upgrade for the player so that it would recognize the G card and a newer version of the media server software. I mistakenly thought that the firmware was the cause of my FF and RW problems (and, yes, in addition to not being able to resume playing after FF or RW, sometimes it would just skip ahead to the next video file instead) so I flashed the player back to the 1.22a firmware and tossed the G card in favor of a wired connection to a wireless G bridge. „But I read over in the Firmware Forum about people who had trouble with types of media with these drives and some disc's burning fine and working in other computers and DVD players but the drive itslef will not read the burnt disc's.
