The Mac Project.
John on 2004/02/21:
„Safari runs a bit slow; I actually prefer IE on this machine for right now. bought herself a 4x (I know, slow, but compatibility is the biggest concern) CD-burner/DVD drive, because she wants to burn and DVD is required to run GarageBand. Turns out we need 256MB for GarageBand, and more disk space (she's buying a FireWire drive). I ran into a snafu getting the burner to burn a disc from iTunes, but a quick run of PatchBurn II fixed that in no time.“

Thoughts on the airplane to Okinawa from Tokyo
washu on 2004/02/01:
„I don’t need or want the CD when I am traveling. And if I do, there are some great looking external DVD/CD burner drives. The external drive can be used with my desktop as well, and will last between computer upgrades.“

The "iBox"
dcohen on 2004/01/02:
„First of all, it would be about the size of a standard VCR (or these days DVD player) so it could fit nicely in with the rest of your Home Theater components. It would have a SuperDrive (DVD/CD burner), a hefty hard drive (going from 80GB, 120GB, to 250GB), a modem, ethernet, AirPort Extreme (Wi-FI, 802.11g), A USB port on the front along with a FireWire 400 port, a USB port on the back along with a FireWire 800 port, audio-out for connection to a stereo system, and a PCI port for the included TV tuner card. The Processor would not be a G3, as so many people are speculating, because for there to be any DVD burning of captured TV programs a G4 would be needed for all the MPEG-2 encoding.“

Copy Controlled CDs
jann on 2003/05/31:
„If your Mac has a WRITEABLE DVD DRIVE (read that 'superdrives') of any kind, it will refuse to read this Copy Controlled CD correctly and display (if not the DATA portion), then a VERY scrambled directory of what is on the disc...HOWEVER, if your Mac has ANY OTHER KIND OF BURNER or WRITER (including the 'combo-drives' combination DVD-PLAYER/CD-BURNERS) then iTunes will happily read the correct directory version of the Audio CD and load it up into iTunes. Thus, I have made me one of my "personal digital copies" of Harem by Sarah Brightman...“
