„I found quite a bit really, but with drives this size, I'm still up to only 32% free. I have an external backup drive which is 250 GB, so if I burn my backups onto DVD (which I can do having bought a burner last month) I will have that much more space, but on a slower USB 2.0 connection. I guess I will put stuff I want to keep handy but will only use once or twice a week on it. My rule so far has been that monthly use data goes on DVD or CD media, but I guess I may have to change that.“

Some slightly related:
„I am using an Inspiron 8600 Notebook and am purchasing an Iomega REV 35gb/90gb (90 compressed) backup solution that I will be using to store Raw footage. My theory is the tapes are fairly reasonable, about $50 a piece. I should be able to capture quite a bit of footage onto these external disks, then use these for capturing sequences into my editor.“http://www.videouniversity.com/wwwboard/wedding/messages/ 71284.html - Cached
„the swap trays [they hold the drive] are a little cheaper [you can get them for about $50 for the addonics] but worse in that they seem to support only firewire and the swap-tray enclosure is fairly large [harder to use the backup disk for its unintended purpose of heading to another location and copying large amounts of data to a nice small external drive]“http://blogs.onenw.org/kb/archives/000661.html - Cached

„We have received many requests for support of external FireWire(IEEE1394) harddisks at the beam lines. FireWire connected harddisks looks like a very attractive backup solution and we would like to support it. As we are gradully introducing Linux desktops on the beam lines we will almsot certainly provide the possibilty to connect external FireWire disks.“http://smb.slac.stanford.edu/software/ backup.html - Cached
